Sides of Paintings
“Painting” transformed into photography is what really interested me. In fact, this would not be the first time I had expressed concepts regarding the connection between painting and photography, as seen in such earlier works as Four Flags and Red Calligraphy. When these marginalized sides of the paintings are placed together to create a three dimensional form, a sculpture or so called installation, every side of them comes together in my photography to form a new painting. Their meaningless sides have become the focus of my interest; we are now truly viewing the visual experience outside of painting. Using macro photography, the texture of the canvas and the colors of the painting have been magnified to create a new order. This is meaning beyond painting. The original painting has become a pathway to my new photographic work, Sides of Paintings.
