Feng Yan
Feng Yan (b. 1963) is widely recognized as one of China’s foremost photographic artists. He graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 1989 and currently divides his time between New York and Beijing.
Marked by profound conceptual rigor, Feng’s works embody a sense of timelessness through their restrained minimalist forms. His photographic practice seeks to reveal the quiet essence of truth within contemporary experience. Beyond photography and painting, his literary works extend and enrich his visual investigations, together forming a distinctive and holistic artistic vision.
Feng Yan has presented solo exhibitions at the Suzhou Museum, Tang Contemporary Art, Shanghai Gallery of Art, Three Shadows Photography Center, and Courtyard Gallery. His work has also been featured in major group exhibitions at institutions including Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam, Museum für Angewandte Kunst Köln, BMW Foundation (Berlin), White Rabbit Gallery (Australia), Spencer Museum of Art (Kansas), UQ Art Museum (Australia), Monash Gallery of Art (Australia), Power Station of Art (Shanghai), Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, OCAT Shenzhen, and CAFA Art Museum (Beijing). His works are held in numerous public and private collections worldwide.
In 2020, his collection of writings, Sounds of the Springing Chair, was published by Guangxi Normal University Press.
